Alexis Sanchez will start scoring soon, Arsene Wenger says

That is their worst record at the start of a season since 1986, but ahead of Saturday's game at unbeaten Leicester Wenger appeared unconcerned by Sanchez's drought. "I think I played him very early before he was completely fit, physically, that is one explanation," he said. "The second is that every player who has won a big trophy with the national team takes some while to settle and come back to his best. These are the two main explanations for me. "Physically he is not completely ready, coming out of a big achievement and that takes time. I don't worry for Alexis Sanchez. Even when he doesn't score he is still a major threat for everybody and I am confident he will score very soon." Sanchez started on the bench on Wednesday as Arsenal ended a two-game losing run with victory at Tottenham in the Capital One Cup.

Chelsea stand one win away from the Premier League title after mounting an impressive comeback to beat Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Jose Mourinho's side needed to call on all their reserves of quality and resilience to overcome Leicester City's fiercely determined challenge which earned them a deserved first-half lead through Marc Albrighton.
As expectations of another victory on the road to Premier League safety rose in a thunderous atmosphere, Chelsea responded in the style of champions-elect to earn the victory that means they will be crowned champions for the first time in five years if they beat Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Didier Drogba restored equality early in the second half and further goals from captain John Terry and Ramires wrapped up a win that was testimony to the qualities that have put Chelsea on the brink of glory.
And in a swipe at the Arsenal fans who criticised their approach in Sunday's goalless draw at the Emirates, the visiting fans roared their team to the final whistle with chants of "boring, boring Chelsea".
This defeat ends Leicester's run of four straight wins that has lifted them out of the relegation places but there was enough contained within this display to maintain manager Nigel Pearson's belief that they will retain their Premier League status.

For Chelsea and manager Jose Mourinho, only the formalities remain to be completed as he moved towards his third title at Stamford Bridge, the first of his second spell in charge, after claiming the Capital One Cupearlier this season.

All the factors behind Leicester's recent renaissance were in evidence in a first half when they recovered from serious disruption to take a lead they fully merited.

The Foxes started with real rhythm and tempo but suffered two enforced early changes as Andy King and Robert Huth went off injured to be replaced by Ritchie De Laet and Matty James.

It was still the Foxes, inspired by the ageless Esteban Cambiasso, who held the initiative and it was only fine work from Petr Cech, standing in for Thibaut Courtois as he nurses a slight hip injury, who prevented Leicester from taking the lead.

The veteran blocked superbly from Paul Konchesky as he arrived at the far post, then Albrighton's shot was blocked in the scramble as Chelsea survived.

They did not escape in first-half stoppage time when the pace of Jamie Vardy posed more problems, creating a chance down the left, and when Cesar Azpilicueta lost his footing on a surface made slippy by a downpour, Albrighton beat Cech with a calm side-footed finish.

The King Power Stadium was rocking but Chelsea responded in the manner Mourinho will have demanded with the equaliser three minutes after the restart, the hobbling Drogba sweeping Branislav Ivanovic's cross beyond Kasper Schmeichel.

Drogba should have added a second within moments but scooped a finish high over the bar from Cesc Fabregas's pass.

The great striker had looked every one of his 37 years in the first half but was suddenly a threat and flashed a shot across the face of goal after a powerful run into the area.

As Leicester tired, understandably as their work-rate was so intense, Chelsea took charge and there was an inevitability about the goal that put them in front with 11 minutes remaining. Schmeichel did well to push out Gary Cahill's header from Fabregas's corner but Terry reacted first to push the loose ball over the line.

Chelsea were now in complete command and Ramires provided the final flourish with a superb rising drive from the edge of the area that flew past the helpless Schmeichel.

The title is within reach - it is now a question of when rather than if for Mourinho and Chelsea.

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson: "The players didn't deserve to be on the end of a 3-1 defeat. It was a tough game, we took the lead and showed a decent account of ourselves.

"Having taken the lead we showed positive intent but in the second half with them equalising so early, it gives a different complexion and the way the game developed suited their game-plan."

Chelsea are hopeful striker Loic Remy will be fit after he missed the QPR match with a calf injury.

Diego Costa is still absent but could return against Arsenal next week.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is without the injured quartet of Michael Carrick, Daley Blind, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo.

Jonny Evans is suspended, so Chris Smalling, Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett are the club's only available central defenders.

MATCH PREVIEW

Even before a ball is kicked, the title seems to have moved closer to being clinched by Chelsea.

Manchester United's derby win last weekend has come at a cost, with Phil Jones, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Michael Carrick all ruled out of the action at Stamford Bridge.

Of that quartet, the loss of Carrick may be the most keenly felt, with United having won 12 and lost only one of the 16 Premier League games he's started this season. There's also the possible knock-on effect of having to move Wayne Rooney back from his striking position to cover.

None of that is to say that bang in-form United CAN'T win of course, but it surely seems less likely, with Chelsea having not lost a home league game for one year.

Only Bradford have beaten the Blues at the Bridge this season , with Jose Mourinho's side boasting the only undefeated home record in the top eight tiers of English football - encompassing 16 leagues!

Their football hasn't been scintillating of late - all of their last six league wins have been by a single goal - but it's often said that the mark of a good side is one that wins when not playing well, and Chelsea are winning.

It's now almost undoubtedly a question of when they win the league, not if, and on collecting his third Premier League title (in three games time if they win them all) Mourinho might raise a glass to the man who'll be in the other technical area for this one.

In the late 1990s, whilst others doubted his worth to the Barcelona backroom team, Louis van Gaal not only kept the Portuguese on but promoted him to first-team coaching duties.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s verdict on Francis Coquelin’s Premier League debut was damning but the former Manchester United manager wasn’t the only one to doubt whether the young midfielder would make the grade. January signing Wilfried Bony confident of scoring goals at Manchester City

Wilfried Bony is confident of resuming his regular goalscoring form once he settles in at Manchester City.

The £25m January signing is yet to find the net for his new club and missed two decent chances against Leicester in midweek on his first start.

But Bony has come through mini-droughts in the past, going seven games without a goal at the start of Swansea's season before a run of eight in 10 Premier League games.

That scoring streak helped him to more goals in 2014 than any other player in the division and Bony, who arrived in English football from Vitesse Arnhem, is not alarmed by his slow start at City.

“When I first came to England there was big pressure because I was coming from Holland to the Premier League,” he told the City website.

At Swansea, I didn’t score in the first few games so there was more pressure again, but it’s just something you have to live with by improving and doing things better.

“This is a great move for me but I need to work hard, take my chances when they come along and it will get easier as I get to know my team-mates better and get a better understanding.

“I’ve only been here for two weeks so I’m just settling in, getting to know everyone better and they are getting to know me and what my strengths are, too.”

One player who knows Bony well already is his Ivory Coast team-mate Yaya Toure, who influenced the 26-year-old's decision to swap Swansea for the Etihad.

He said: “More than anyone, Yaya told me that City was one of the greatest clubs in the world and said that if I had the opportunity to come here that I should take it with both hands, so I did.”

Toby Alderweireld unsure of Southampton future and predicts hectic summer

Southampton's on-loan defender Toby Alderweireld admits he has no idea where he will be plying his trade next season.

Alderweireld, 26, joined Saints on a season-long loan from Spanish champions Atletico Madrid last summer.

The Belgium international has figured prominently under Ronald Koeman, and Southampton have an option to make his deal permanent in the summer, although Atletico can pay a small fee to negate that clause

Either way, the defender says he is yet to make a decision on his future.

“In any case, that they speak well of one does not hurt anyone. If they speak well of me that signifies that I am having a good season,” Alderweireld told Fan magazine.

“I am not going to hide it – it is nice to read this kind of stuff. I feel good in the Premier League, but I have no idea about any concrete interest.

"Atletico can make me return because I still have two more years on my contract, Southampton can buy me, another club can make an offer…

“It seems, at least, that it is going to be another hectic summer for me.”
